The Fair Trader Welcomes Amazon Ecology

Amazon Ecology produce handmade goods—including handicrafts like the gorgeous birds we have available.

Notably, a portion of the proceeds from sales is reinvested into health, educational, and reforestation programs for their partner communities. In fact, during the pandemic, the organisation provided medicine and food assistance to nearly 600 families, underscoring its dedication to community welfare.

Among Amazon Ecology’s notable products are the Latin American Woven Bird Ornaments. Crafted from chambira palm fibre by skilled Peruvian artisans, these ornaments feature birds endemic to the Amazon and broader Central and South America. Each piece reflects cultural heritage, artistic craftsmanship, and conservation ethics.

By partnering with Amazon Ecology, The Fair Trader expands its offering of unique, ethically produced goods while contributing to resilient forests and empowered communities.

We encourage customers to view this lovely collection, knowing their purchase directly benefits the Amazon ecosystem and its inhabitants.

Center for Amazon Community Ecology Overview

Founded in 2006 as a non-profit organization, the Center for Amazon Community Ecology has concentrated on assisting traditional communities in sustainable harvesting and marketing of value-added non-timber forest products such as handicrafts and essential oils.

These efforts enable community members to earn a livelihood without compromising forest integrity. Currently, the organisation collaborates with more than 200 artisans from 16 native and campesino communities in the northern Peruvian Amazon. Products are distributed through online and retail channels as well as special events, and a portion of sales is reinvested in support of health, education, and reforestation initiatives within partnering communities. During the pandemic, aid was extended to almost 600 families.

Mission

Amazon Ecology is committed to advancing the wellbeing of the Amazon ecosystem by empowering its people to develop sustainable livelihoods, preserve vibrant cultures, build healthy and capable communities, and ensure resilient forests.

Values

The organization envisions an Amazon where residents foster sustainable livelihoods, strengthen traditional communities, and conserve the world's largest rainforest.

Future plans include sharing social rebate benefits directly with artisan families in San Francisco to promote equity and sustained engagement.
