About the Makers
GK Collective is a social enterprise that provides women in rural areas of Azerbaijan with meaningful work that preserves traditional cultural knitting practices. Currently there are 10 women working with GK Collective who come from low-income families. The women make slippers and socks that feature traditional patterns used in Azerbaijan carpets. The ornamental patterns used differ throughout the regions, which include Karabakh, Gabala, Lerik, Shirvan, Shamakhi, Guba and Baku.
